04/12/03:  GHOST VOICES NOW AVAILABLE

Set within the turmoil of the Vietnam war, Ghost Voices is a stark depiction of the affects of combat upon some of the men of 2 Bravo 6 Platoon Royal Marines; their relationships, attitudes and reactions to dealing with the perpetual boredom and sudden horrors that peacekeeping can bring. Barry Morris reveals what others often omit; the unrelenting struggle to overcome fear and the powerlessness of having to witness abuse of non combatants.

22/11/03:  SPAKEMON’S 2ND BOOK

With work almost complete on the cartoons Billy Spakemon has been doing for Greg Stokes’s spoof detective novel a second volume of his own dialect verse has been mooted, this time with cartoons to supplement the poems. The second book is likely to be longer than the first.  More news on this as it surfaces.

GHOST VOICES  - Publication Date

Barry Morris’s book chronicling 373 days in the Vietnam war with the Royal Marines is to be published on 4th December 2003 The publication is the result of collaboration between Morris and the Kates Hill Press. The book is being distributed by Morris but will also be available from the Kates Hill Press. Morris is currently working on his first novel, Mindswept.

COMB BINDING COMING

Recent years have seen the Kates Hill Press bring out several booklets. The beauty of this from our point of view is that they can be produced more or less on demand.  Longer works, even when producing short runs, is always a balance between unit cost and length of run.  In order to bring out more titles the Kates Hill Press is going over to comb or wire binding to reduce the amount of capital tied up in, and space taken up by, unsold stock.

BLACK COUNTRY CLASSICS

To inaugurate the new style of publication the Kates Hill Press will launch a new series entitled Black Country Classics early in the new year, 2004. The first tiles will be Amy Lyons 1902 work Black Country Sketches, and Dud Dudley’s Metallum Martis, first published in 1665.

10/11/03:

TOSSIE LOOKING TO TV

Tossie Patrick is considering dramatising life in a 1920s Black Country township as first described in her booklet A Pocketful of Memories – Blackheath with a view to submitting it to local TV stations.  She was encouraged to take this step when a writer from Wales contacted her after reading the book.
